Fortnite Chapter 7 Season 4 is live today. Its main new system lets players reach a console and change the rules for the whole lobby.
The season is called Override. Epic's launch notes say Override Consoles appear during matches and offer a choice of three modifiers. The winning player's name is displayed around the console, making control of the rule change visible to everyone. Some rarer Squad Overrides benefit only the squad that claims them, but reveal that squad's location on the map.
Cheat codes become map objectives
Override also scatters what Epic calls Cheat Codes across the Island. Players can enter them to free Sprite allies, while Sprite Dust can be spent on Loot Hacks that alter what appears in chests. Sprites collected during the previous Runners season remain usable in a separate Sprite Garden mode.
These features are objectives inside the match rather than settings chosen before it. A lobby-wide modifier gives squads a reason to contest a console even when it is not the safest route. Showing the controlling squad's name makes the advantage visible to its opponents.
Sonic leads the crossover list
Sonic the Hedgehog headlines the Battle Pass, with Tails appearing as a Sidekick. Epic has also named several crossovers planned across the season, including Kingdom Hearts, Pac-Man, Mega Man, Persona 5 Royal, Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, Crash Bandicoot and Spyro the Dragon.
Some of them affect play rather than only adding outfits. The launch notes mention Sonic's Power Sneakers for racing through Green Hill Zone, a Tetris Rift, Mega Man's Mega Buster and a Kingdom Key arriving later in the season. Midas' Masterpiece also returns as a pistol capable of a one-headshot elimination.
Battle Pass dates and price
Epic's Battle Pass page says the pass costs 800 V-Bucks or is included with Fortnite Crew. Players can earn up to 800 V-Bucks through the pass, and the season is scheduled to end on November 1, 2026, Eastern Time.
A launch-week bonus is available to players who obtain the pass before August 27 at 11:59 PM Eastern. Gifting the pass during the season also unlocks a separate outfit and accessories for both players.
The crossover characters will be the most visible part of the launch. The longer-term change is the Override system, which can give each match a different rule after play has already begun. The first weeks of the season will show how often players contest those consoles and which modifiers have the largest effect.
