Privacy Policy

How The Daily Unemployed collects, uses and protects information. Last updated 9 August 2026.

What we collect

When you submit an article, image, comment or contact message, we collect the information you enter and any image file you upload. This may include a username, name, email address, article text, sources, image credits and message content. Usernames, approved submissions, images or comments may be published. Contact email addresses are not published.

Technical information

Our hosting providers may process basic request information such as IP addresses, device data and server logs for security, reliability and abuse prevention. For contact-form rate limiting, we store a one-way hash of the connecting IP address rather than the address itself.

Why we use it

We use information to review and publish submissions, display comments, respond to enquiries, investigate corrections or complaints, prevent spam and abuse, and operate the publication. We do not sell personal information or use contact details for advertising.

Storage and service providers

Publication data is stored in the database attached to our OpenAI Sites deployment and processed by the infrastructure providers that operate that service. Those providers may process data outside Australia. We retain published material while it remains part of the archive, and keep private submissions, comments and contact records only as long as reasonably needed for editorial, safety, legal or operational purposes.

Your choices and requests

You can use our contact form to ask what personal information we hold about you, request a correction or deletion, or make a privacy complaint. We may need enough information to verify the request. We will assess requests against applicable law and legitimate archival or legal requirements.

Children and sensitive information

Do not submit sensitive personal information, passwords, private addresses or illegal material. This publication is not designed to collect information from children. If you believe a child has submitted personal information, contact us so we can review it.

Changes

We may update this policy when the site or its providers change. The current version and update date will remain on this page.
