FIFA says it is investigating an incident involving IShowSpeed and a spectator during Argentina's World Cup match against Cape Verde in Miami Gardens. The streamer was broadcasting from the stands when he asked what a nearby fan in an Argentina shirt was saying to him.

Video from the stream appeared to capture the spectator using a racist phrase in Spanish. FIFA later said it condemns racism and discrimination and that such behaviour has no place at the World Cup. The Associated Press reported that messages seeking comment from IShowSpeed had not immediately been returned.

The moment matters beyond one ugly exchange. IShowSpeed's match streams turn a seat in the crowd into a broadcast watched by millions, which means the people around him can suddenly become part of the programme. That immediacy is the appeal of IRL streaming, but it also exposes creators and viewers to behaviour that a conventional broadcast may never put on air.

This report describes what is visible in the stream and what FIFA has publicly confirmed. It does not identify the spectator or speculate about any sanction while the investigation remains open.
