Outer Banks has returned for its fifth and final season, with all 10 episodes arriving on Netflix on August 20.
The release closes a story that began with a missing father, a divided island and a group of friends who kept finding bigger trouble every time they found another clue. Netflix lists the final season as 10 hour-long episodes.
Where the Pogues begin
Netflix's official synopsis places the group at breaking point after JJ's death in Morocco. John B, Sarah, Kiara, Pope and Cleo are dealing with that loss while Chandler Groff, Dalia and the Corsairs remain part of the threat around them. Rafe is also back in the picture as an uneasy ally rather than a suddenly trusted friend.
That setup gives the final season two jobs. It has to finish the immediate pursuit and give the surviving characters somewhere to go when there is no next treasure hunt. The official description frames their mission around avenging their friend and reclaiming their future, which suggests the ending is meant to be about more than who gets the prize.
A final season, not another cliffhanger promise
Netflix and the show's creators confirmed in November 2024 that Season 5 would be the last. Announcing the ending before release matters for a series built on cliffhangers. Viewers can begin these episodes knowing the story is supposed to reach a conclusion rather than pause while another renewal is negotiated.
The final-season label also changes the tension. Characters who would normally be protected by the need for another year no longer have that guarantee, and relationships that have stretched across the series now need an answer.
What to know before pressing play
The official season page contains direct spoilers for the end of Season 4, including the loss that drives the new episodes. Anyone who is behind should finish the previous season before reading Netflix's full synopsis or watching final-season promotional material.
For everyone caught up, the complete season is available now rather than split into separate release dates. Ten episodes gives the Pogues room for one more journey, but this time the real destination is an ending.
