Kingdom Hearts IV is planned for late 2027, Disney and Square Enix have announced. A new trailer shown at D23 also confirms that *Coco* will become part of the game, bringing Miguel and the Land of the Dead into Sora's next adventure.

That is the simple version of the news. After years without a release target, fans now know roughly when the next main Kingdom Hearts game is expected to arrive — and they have their clearest look yet at one of its new Disney and Pixar worlds.

What is Kingdom Hearts?

Kingdom Hearts is an action role-playing series created by Disney and Square Enix. It follows Sora, a hero who travels between Disney-inspired worlds with Donald Duck and Goofy while fighting with a key-shaped weapon called the Keyblade.

The games have a long, complicated story, but newcomers do not need to understand every piece of it to follow this announcement. Kingdom Hearts IV is the next main entry, and *Coco* is now one of the settings players can expect to visit.

What the new trailer shows

The 90-second trailer spends much of its opening in the colourful Land of the Dead from Pixar's *Coco*. Miguel appears during a musical scene before the video shifts towards Sora and the darker mystery surrounding him.

Square Enix's official description says Sora wakes in Quadratum, a city that looks much more like modern Tokyo than the bright Disney worlds usually associated with the series. While Sora searches for a way home, Donald and Goofy head to the Underworld looking for a clue to his location.

The trailer does not explain exactly how Miguel's story connects to Sora's. It confirms the setting without revealing the full plot, which leaves the most important details for the game itself.

When and where can people play it?

The announced launch window is late 2027. That is not an exact release date, so the timing could still change as development continues.

The official trailer description says the game can now be wishlisted for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X and S, Xbox on PC, Nintendo Switch 2, Steam and the Epic Games Store. Square Enix has not announced pricing or special editions.

For players who want to catch up first, Square Enix is also preparing *Kingdom Hearts Collection [I–III]*. The collection is scheduled for 8 October 2026 and is designed to bring the main story together before the new game arrives.

Why this announcement matters

Kingdom Hearts IV was first revealed during the series' 20th-anniversary celebrations, but a broad release target had remained missing. “Late 2027” is still a wide window, yet it turns the game from a distant promise into something fans can begin planning for.

The choice of *Coco* matters too. Its Land of the Dead gives Kingdom Hearts a visually distinctive new world, while its story about memory, family and the afterlife fits naturally with a series already built around separation, loss and finding a way home.

Disney has also scheduled a “Deep Dive into Kingdom Hearts” panel at D23 as part of the series' 25th-anniversary celebration. More context may follow, but the confirmed news for now is straightforward: Kingdom Hearts IV is targeting late 2027, and *Coco* is officially joining the adventure.
